SHARANA (SW): The Taliban militants have killed a groom and four of his friends in south-eastern Paktika province.
The incident took place in the province’s Sar Hawza district on Thursday evening. According to the reports, the militants stormed a wedding ceremony and killed the men on the spot.
Locals claim the victims were civilian and had no affiliation with the government. Maj. Gen. Khalilullah Ziaee, the police chief in the province said in this regard that all the victims were civilian and were not associated with any government office.
The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack. In a message, the rebels said that the victims were killed for their association with the government.
This province bordering Pakistan has been marred by brutal insurgency for quite some time now. Last year, over 50 people died when the Taliban suicide bomber attacked a volleyball match in the province’s Yahya Khail district.
