PUL-I-ALAM (SW): Residents in the eastern Logar province fear that the local and foreign militants are planning a massive attack to overrun the Azara district.
Haseeb Stanikzai, a member of the provincial council told Salam Watandar that hundreds of militants including the Arabs, Chechens, Uzbek and Pakistanis have been sneaking into the district for the past one week now. He noted that all these moves are part of a bigger plan to overrun the district.
Haji Ibrahim, a local in the district told Salam Watandar that the militants forcefully took vehicles from the locals to bring their arms and ammunition into the district.
Gen. Abdul Razaq Safi, commander of the Afghan National Army (ANA) in Logar confirmed the reports about Taliban waging an attack on the district. He informed that the rebels have placed their weapons on the Qasim Hill near the district. The ANA commander added that the government forces are working on a plan to destroy the centers of the militants. He added that the Qasim Hill is around 1000 meter high hence the Afghan Air Force (AAF) has been asked to help hit the rebels on this point.
Saleem Saleh, spokesman for the provincial governor said in this regard that addition troops are ready to be sent to the restive district.
