KUNDUZ CITY (SW): The police chief in northern Kunduz province told Salam Watandar that a policeman has been arrested on the charges of spying for the Taliban.
With the accused police officer, a 22-year old Muhammad Khalid was also arrested. In an exclusive interview, Gen. Muhammad Qasim Jangle Bagh, the police chief in the province, told Salam Watandar that the two were planning to enter suicide bombers and plant explosives-laden devices inside the provincial police headquarters.
A source in Kunduz police stated that the men wanted to organize suicide bombing and had contact numbers of the rebels with them.
Amruddin Wali, a member at Kunduz provincial council, has said in this regard that the way Taliban have penetrated the security forces is questionable. Sayed Mahmud Danish, the spokesperson for Kunduz governor, while acknowledging that the rebels might have penetrated into the forces, said the recruitment process has been tightened.
Insurgents’ penetration into the security organizations is not unprecedented in northern parts of the county. Few months ago, a Taliban commander was arrested while being transported to Kabul in a police vehicle and accompanied by two policemen.
