The UN urged to declare its stance on Torkham issue

KABUL (SW): The Wolesi Jirga (lower house) released a statement on Wednesday urging the international community and the UN to assess the documents related to the issue of Durand Line and help put an end to the tensions at Torkham between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The members of Wolesi Jirga showed reaction to the dispute between Afghanistan and Pakistan at Torkhom and called for a diplomatic solution to the tensions.

Wolesi Jirga called the new Pakistani military installments near Torkham as illegal and against international norms.

Niamatullah Ghafari, the second deputy for the Wolesi Jirga has said that the government’s leaders should take the issue seriously.

The house has praised the role of Afghanistan Border Police (ABP) in countering Pakistani military’s moves.

Shinkai Zahin, a member of the WJ, has said that the executive, judiciary and legislative in the country should announce their stance on the recent fighting at Torkham.

The house has also urged upon the government to pay attention to the families of those security personnel who have lost their lives in the fighting.

There have been rallies in Kabul, Helmand and Herat by the civil society activists who declared their support for the security forces involved in the fighting at Torkham.
