Ghani: I will follow journalists’ cases myself

KABUL (SW): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani in his meeting with journalists from across the country on Wednesday said that he would pay serious attention to the security of the journalists.

He emphasized that he would himself follow the cases of the journalists and said that violence against reporters was not acceptable at all.

He added that there has been an agreement with the National Security Council in ensuring the safety of journalists and action would soon be taken about it.Ghani said that journalists experienced exile and censorship decades ago but everything has now changed for the better.He pointed out to the role journalists can play in countering corruption.

The President also asked for establishment of an institution aimed at accessing the information and added that this institution would make it easy for the journalists to have access to information from the government.

On distributing plots among journalists, the President said that first he would distribute lands for the family of the security forces who have lost their lives on the frontlines and after that he would speak with journalists about distribution lands for them.

He urged upon the Ministry of Information and Culture to dedicate awards for effective activities of journalists.

On the occasion, the President also touched upon the economic achievements of the country, in particular the three economic agreements like TAPI, CASA-1000 and Chabahar Port. He added that such projects would turn Afghanistan into a regional economic hub.

The President said that Afghanistan could be considered as the richest countries in terms of natural resources and using those resources Afghanistan would be a poverty-free nation.
