KABUL (SW): The Arg (Presidential Palace) and Abdullah Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer, have confirmed the news of a US airstrike against Mullah Akhtar Mansoor, and has said that it is highly possible that Mansoor has been killed.
Abdullah has said that big changes are expected in the political and military ranks of Taliban after Mullah Mansoor’s death.
Earlier, a statement released by the Pentagon has said that the car, which was carrying Mullah Mansoor in the vicinity of the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan was targeted by the US drone.
“We are still assessing the results of the strike and will provide more information as it becomes available,” the statement said.
Arg( Presidential Palace) has also confirmed the news in a statement.
Pakistani papers, contrary to the Pentagon, are certain that Mullah Mansoor has been killed.
Razaq Barq, one of the Pakistani freelance reporters based in Queeta, told Salam Watandar that Mullah Mansoor has been killed in the attack.
Government in Pakistan however, has not commented on this so far. Barq said that Mullah Mansoor was targeted in Ahmad Wal area in Baluchistan province.
Taliban have not commented in this regard so far.
Ahmad Wal area is located 100 km south of Queta, which shares border with Afghanistan and Iran.
It is worth mentioning that Mullah Dadullah, one of the top leaders of the Taliban, was also killed in the same area years back.
