KABUL (SW): Rallies were held in various parts of the country to mark the International Workers’ Day or the Labour Day on Sunday.
In the capital Kabul, the National Union of Afghanistan Workers Employee (NUAWE) organized a rally urging the government to comply by their promises in creating more jobs and ensuring better work conditions for millions of workers in the country.
Addressing the rally, Marouf Qadri, Head of NUAWE said that more and more people are losing jobs and those working are faced with multiple hardships. Participants of the rally demanded the government not to remain idle in the wake of growing unemployment. It was highlighted that workers in various sectors are compelled to work up to 12 hours a day.
Kehkashan Kofi, a civil society activist, said on the occasion that the government should first ensure peace and stability as they are fundamental in creating enabling environment for more jobs.
Similar demonstrations to mark the Labor Day were held in various other parts of the country.
Nasrin Oryakhail, Minister of Labour, Social Affairs, Martyrs & Disabled (MoLSAMD) said in her message on the day that unemployment in Afghanistan has reached to 40 percent but the government is committed to address the issue.
