KABUL (SW): Abdullah Abdullah, the Chief Executive Officer of the Government of National Unity (GNU) on Tuesday pronounced the liberation of militants from prisons across the country as an historic mistake.
He said this at the ceremony organized to mark the 24th anniversary of Mujahidin’s victory over the pro-Soviet communist government in Afghanistan. The gathering was attended by the President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani among other notable figures. Speaking on the occaison, the CEO said that a number of militants involved in deadly attacks got liberated from prisons across the country in past many years.
He added that what the Taliban are doing is not “Jehad” but heinous crime against humanity. He called upon the citizen to unite against the terrorists.
Addressing the gathering, the President said decades of wars have forced the Afghans to utilize much of their energy to fight the rebels rather than striving for development. Glorifying the efforts of the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF), Ghani expressed his resolve to bring harmony, peace and prosperity to the nation.
He noted that Afghans have proved by defeating the mighty Soviet power that they are united and will remain so against any force threatening its unity and sovereignty.
