KABUL (SW): Following the sudden resignation of head coach Inzimamul Haq, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) is now in search for a better alternative.
The former Pakistani captain Inzamam-ul-Haq on Saturday put forward his resignation as head coach for Afghanistan’s cricket team and is likely to make another comeback for Pakistan, but this time as chief selector.
“We have received Inzamam’s resignation through e-mail,” Afghanistan Cricket Board chief Shafiq Stanikzai said. Talking to ESPNcricinfo, Stanikzai said, “Today Shaharyar Khan called me and asked a favour to release Inzamam as they are keen to hire him. “Although he was in contract with us until December this year, we are patriotic people and if Pakistan needs Inzamam for their own country, we are ready to release him.”
Nasim Danish, Chairman of the ACB, has assured the countrymen that a better alternative would be found. On his personal Facebook account, Danish has defended Inzimam for preferring his country.
The ACB has said that it allowed Inzimam to quit in a bid to bolster ties with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). He acknowledged Inzimam’s abilities and the achievements he brought to the ACB in a short time. Danish thanked the veteran Pakistani cricketer for his services.
Inzamam guided Afghanistan to the Super 10 stage of the recent World Twenty20 in India, during which they defeated eventual champions West Indies.
It is vital to note that the Afghan squad has scheduled to take part in an important series against Ireland and later against Scotland later this year.
