TALOQAN (SW): Local officials in northern Takahr province have said that the militants who joined the peace process actually just did it for the sake of money only to rejoin the Taliban.
Noor Mohammad Hakimi,Takhar Police Chief, told Salam Watandar that a number of militants gave-up fighting after military operation conducted by the security forces in the province.
He said that several militants who first joined the peace process but later rejoined the militants have been killed.
He said that whenever the militants face it difficult to fight they surrender to the government.
Although, he lauded the efforts by the High Council for Peace (HCP) but said that it would not be fruitful if it keeps neglecting such tactics of the militants.

Mamor Hassan, Head of HPC in Takhar, while confirming the police chief’s remarks, said that the HPC can improve its efforts.
He said that during fighting in Darqad, 45 militants joined the peace process who did not ask for any money in return.
Takhar is one of the relatively secure provinces in the country, which has recently witnessed Taliban’s activities.
It is said that four months ago when security forces exerted pressure in Dasht-e-Archi district in Kunduz, the militants fled to Takhar and took control of the capital city in the province.
