HERAT CITY (SW): At least two hundred Taliban fighters are reported dead following in-fight between the two warring factions of the Taliban since Tuesday in western Herat province.

Local officials have said that the Taliban group of pro-Mullah Rasoul militants has been engaged in fighting with the pro-Mullah Mansour militant. The province’s Shindand district is said to be the battle ground.

Jailana Farhad, director publications in Herat told Salam Watandar that the rebels have also committed war crimes in their efforts to overpower the opponent. He said that a militant commander named Mullah Nangyali is heading the pro-Mullah Rasul fighters while Mullah Samad is in-charge of the militants loyal to Mullah Mansour.

“The latest figures I have obtained suggest that the militants have committed war crimes and inhuman acts in the Shindad by beheading their opponents in front of women and children”, he said. A day earlier, the military sources claimed they have taken measures to ensure civilians do not get harmed.

Hundreds of rebels from neighboring Farah, Nimroz and Helmand is said to have join the fighting in Herat.

Meanwhile, Naibullah Najibi, spokesman or the 207-Zafar Corps, has claimed that Mullah Nangyali and some 100 of his men have joined the government forces. It is worth noticing that the Taliban faction led by Mullah Rasul charge the opposite faction of Mullah Mansour for being trained and supported by Pakistan.
