KABUL (SW): Ferozoddin Feroz, Minister for Public Health, has said that Afghanistan’s Interim Health Council that has been approved by cabinet will strive to provide better and affordable health services across the country.
Speaking at the first session of this newly established body here on Tuesday, the Minister said that this council would prevent the import of low-quality medicine, will focus on work ethics, hygienic at health centers, and would support private sector in a bid to deliver better and affordable health services across the country.
Farida Momand, Minister of Higher Education, speaking at the session, said that this council would benefit the patients in terms of diagnosis and treatment. She said that a number of universities in the country are faced with many challenges. She emphasized that the government has assigned a delegation to bring reforms to curriculum in the universities.
Nasrin Oryakheyl, Minister of Labor, Social Affairs, Martyrs and Disabled (LSAMD), said on the occasion that labor laws are not considered in the health sector. She added that in many hospitals, a number of doctors work for more than 18 hours a day, which also affects the patients.
The newly established health council is said to have 24 representatives from the Ministry of Public Health and one representative each from Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Interior, the NDS, Ministry of Defense, the Parliament, Independent Human Rights Commission and the Presidential Palace.
