Taliban destroy girl school in Badghis

QLA-I-NAW (SW): Officials at the provincial Education Department in northern Badghis province has said that the Taliban have damaged a girl’s school here.

Abdul Qayum Sajed, Acting Director for the Education, told Salam Watandar that the school has been damaged in the Aychka village in Moqor district last night. It is said that the school had 8 classes where more than 290 girls were studying. He said that the school has been totally destroyed as the militants placed and blew-up mines inside it.

He further said that when the security forces went there to look at the scene, the militants conducted an offensive against them, which continued for hours. The school was established with the help of the World Bank’s grant worth some afn 5 million two years ago.

Reports also suggest that the militants have also damaged two more schools elsewhere in this northern province. Bashir Ahmad Aryan, Spokesman for the Education Department in Baghlan, told Salam Watandar that the Taliban destroyed Gawsawaran school in Dand-e-Shahabuddin on Monday in the afternoon.
