BAMAYAN CITY (SW): No more than four months ago, Saber Hashimi wandered in the streets across central Bamyan with his mobile library featuring books on poetry, fiction and painting.
Now, he has set-up Children Foundation in Bamyan City where he exhibits children’s books.
Bamiyan children have come together with unusual enthusiasm at the Children Foundation to read and become familiar with the culture of reading. Saber shows colorful books to them, they look at the pictures in the books, which brought smile to their faces. Saber said he was overwhelmed with emotion as he saw the children enjoy.
Saber told Salam Watandar that children should be discouraged from laziness and violent games, and instead should be encouraged to read books. According to Saber, the mobile library has been warmly welcomed by the people and many have encouraged him to do more about it.
Mahnaz, 8-year-old girl, who came at the opening ceremony of the Foundation, read poems from one of the children’s books. Gulnaz, another girl, who came to the Children Foundation to read books, is a student of the ninth grade. She said that she has borrowed two books from the library and will read them at home.
Meanwhile, the Head of Information and Culture in Bamyan acknowledged the province has no standard library. He said although there are 7 public libraries and 10 private libraries in Bamyan, but these libraries are not good enough due to lack of resources.
On the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony of the Children Foundation, a photo exhibition was also held under the name of "one step and thousand smiles". In this exhibition, images of the mobile library were also exhibited.
