Taliban commit heinous crimes in Darqad district

TALEQAN CITY (SW): Local officials in northern Takhar province said the Taliban during their two months ruling in Darqad district, set ablaze documents related to the local government and destroyed a number of government’s buildings. They established a commission for propagation of virtue and prevention of vice in the district.

Abdul Maroof Wasiq, Head of Appeal Prosecution Office in Takhar, said the Taliban have destroyed all the documents related to criminal cases and public security.

They only documents which are recoverable are the ones which have not received to the three Appeal Prosecution Office’s branches. Wasiq added that one of the officials at the Appeal Prosecution Office was drown in Oxus River as soon as Taliban captured Darqad. He said that local government kept silence about his death.

A delegation from the capital Kabul is expected to visit the district to evaluate the damages there.

Khalil Asir, Spokesman for Police Chief in Takhar, said that government insitutions had to start from zero again in the district. According to him, the mop-up operation is underway and it will take time to fully clear the district of the militants.

Mohammad Yasin Zia, Governor of Takhar, announced that reconstruction projects would soon resume in the district following the mop-up operations.

Noor Mohammad Hakimi, Police Chief in Takhar, said in this regard that Taliban created obstacles for the security forces using mines around the locations which led to the district.

Darqad district shares a border with Tajikistan and when security forces intensified their offesnsives against the militants in Khawaj Ghar district in Takhar as well as in Dasht-e-Archi district in Kunduz, the militants fled to Darqad and took control of the district.
