KABUL (SW): In the wake of intensive fighting in Helmand, the Masharano Jirga (upper house) on Monday expressed grim concerns over the state of security across the country.
Senators stressed that the government should pay due attention and make sure no other part of the country face the fate of Sangin. It was noted that Faryab and Badakhshan provinces were facing identical threats to Helmand.
Mohammad Alim Ezidyar, deputy speaker of the house said in his remarks that he has received a warning call from a security official stationed at the Marja district in Helmand. He stressed that the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) are faced with shortages of supplies in sensitive areas across the country.
Jumadin Gyanwal, a member of the house claimed that helicopters have been seen dropping pro-Daesh rebels in the Sur Rod district. He asserted that the incident occurred two days ago and it involved landing of two un-identified helicopters.
Abdul Latif Nahzat, a senator from north eastern Nuristan province also shared his concerns over the growing influence of pro-Daesh and Taliban militants. He stated that the lawlessness has forced a number of locals to migrate.
The ministries of defense and interior told journalists in Kabul on Monday that foreign intelligence agencies are behind the surging insurgency in the country while a number of foreign militants are fighting shoulder to shoulder with the Taliban and militants against the government forces.
Dawlat Waziri, the MoD spokesman told journalist in Kabul on Monday that seventy percent of Daesh militants in Nangarhar are foreign fighters. He added that same was the case with the Taliban.
