PUL-E-ALAM(SW): Many residents in Logar’s Kharwar, Azra, Baraki Barak and Khoshi districts refer to the Taliban’s self-styled courts to solve their disputes rather than consulting the government’s judicial system.
A number of thes residents told Salamwatandar that widespread corruption and complicated bureaucracy in the courts have compelled them to refer instead to the Taliban courts, which resolves their cases and problems instantly.
Haji Abdul Rahman and Mohammad Daud, the two residents from Baraki Barak and Kharwar districts respectivley, told Salamwatandar that the local people there place greater trust on the Taliban’s courts because the Taliban don not take bribe and resolve the cases with impartiality.
They charged that there is widespread corruption and bureaucracy surrounding the government’s courts and sometimes it takes months and even years for a case to be resolved in the government’s courts.
Hasibullah Stanekzai, Head of Logar Provincial Council, acknowledged that some residents in the districts refer to the Taliban for their disputes. He added that there are two major reasons for it. “One is that those who live under the Taliban’s influence have to refer to the Taliban anyways, and the other reason is that people are fed up with the bureaucracy in the government’s courts and that was why many prefer the Taliban’s court for resolving their cases”, he said.
Mohammad Haleem Fedayee, Governor of Logar, however said that only some residents of the three districts Kharwar, Azra and Charkh, refer to the Taliban because there is no single public court in these districts.
Abdul Qayum Noorzai, Director of Appeal Court in Logar, told Salamwatandar that compared to the previous years, most of the cases have been tackled. He asserted many residents from the areas under the Taliban influence too come to the provincial capital Pul-e-Alam to consult the government’s court for resolving their disputes.
He rejected the claims about bribery and corruption in the government’s courts.
