MAIMANA (SW): Hundreds of locals in northern Faryab and Baghlan provinces have armed themselves and risen against the militants in these parts of the country.
Following the brief fall of Kunduz, the Taliban hinted Faryab and Baghlan were next on their list that prompted fears and compelled the locals to rise. Hundreds of them gathered in Maimana, the provincial capital of Faryab on Sunday to express solidarity with the Afghan security forces and denounce the militants.
They also chanted slogans against Pakistan and urged Islamabad government to stop interfering in Afghanistan. Security officials in Faryab have vowed to thwart any moves by the militants.
In Pul-i-Khumri, capital of the neighboring Baghlan province, this was the second time people have risen against the rebels.
Local leader Sayed Hashmat, who is said to have the command of over 300 strong armed men, told Salam Watandar they strongly support the government forces and would not allow the Taliban to create troubles. These men have asked the government to provide them support.
