Shapoor leaves for London to join World XI

KABUL (SW): Afghan cricket star Shahpoor Zadran on Tuesday left for London to join the World XI in a charity match to be played on Thursday September 17.

Shapoor would join legendary cricketers like Brian Lara, Sanath Jaysuria, Mathew Hayden, Grahame Smith, Scot Straus, Abdul Razaq and Daniel Vettori. The opposite side, “Help for Heroes” is made-up of shining stars like Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Shahid Khan Afridi, Hershel Gibbs, Andrew Straus, Mathew Hogard and others.

The match is aimed at generating charity for English soldiers that have sustained injuries on fronts.

Before, departing for England, the Afghan fast bowler told SW he felt confident and proud to be selected for this match. “I have worked-out hard for this event, and am very positive to perform well”, Shahpoor said. The 28-year old has represented Afghanistan in 36 international one day matches and 23 T20 and has taken 39 and 24 wickets respectively.
