KABUL (SW): At the Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM) in Kabul on Saturday, the international community reiterated its support towards the Afghan people.

The meeting commended the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the international community's efforts to refresh the Tokyo Mutual Accountability Framework, which is the mutual agreement for cooperation between the Government of Afghanistan and the international community, a communiqué by the European Union said.

"The meeting underlined the Government's continued effort and commitment to move towards self-reliance. This is key to our support going forward. The meeting highlighted the continued partnership and commitment from the EU and the international community towards Afghanistan and the Afghan people”, Franz-Michael Mellbin, the EU Special Representative and Head of the EU Delegation to Afghanistan, commented.

To further emphasise the long-term commitment of the EU towards the Afghan people, the EU will co-host the next Ministerial meeting in Brussels with the Afghan Government.

"Now it's urgent that the Government moves from words to deeds in order to demonstrate to the Afghan people that the Government is serious about implementing reforms for the benefit of all Afghans. We urge the Government to complete the formation of the Government and the administration including the appointment of the remaining provincial governors and deputy ministers. This is a key prerequisite for the Government's ability to implement reforms that can lead to a self-reliant Afghanistan," said Mellbin.
