HERAT CITY (SW): A number of women associated with the Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) in western Herat province have complained of being discouraged and ignored by the government.
On the sidelines of Independence Day celebrations here on Thursday, many of them shared their views with SW about the challenges they face in the line of duty.
The gathering was organized at the premises of Provincial Women Affairs Department. Women associated with the LEAs complained that they have taken-up the daunting task to take on militants head on but constrains at their own departments make them feel ignored.
Their main concerns were associated with dearth of opportunities for progress in ranks, sub-standard food and uniform.
They urged the government not to discriminate women and provide them equal opportunities for progress.
Samia, a local council member said on the occasion that this discriminative behavior was the reason why not many women opted to join the forces and those who have joined were still on lower ranks.
Mehbooba Jamshedi, Head of Herat’s Women’s Affair Department stressed that the government should realize the potential of women and allow more and more women to join their countrymen shoulder to shoulder to ensure peace and stability.
Mohammad Asif Rahimi, Herat Governor assured the participants that their views and suggestions would be considered seriously.
