PUL-I-ALAM (SW): The tale of destruction in Logar’s capital Pul-i-Alam remains to haunt the locals as the province’s main public hospital remains out of order days after the deadly truck bombing.
The 85-Bed Hospital used to serve hundreds of poor and needy patients on daily basis from across the province. Last week, a suicide truck bombing claimed at least eight lives and damaged the hospital beyond use. Frustrated residents have now threatened to take to the streets if the government failed to resolve the crisis.
“I have brought my son here from the Barakai Barak district, he is almost on the deathbed but there is no one to look after him”, an elderly women Shazia told SW. “Officials and doctors seem not to bother at all, the people are suffering tragically”, Lutfullah Stanikzai, another local complained.
Aashiqullah Majidi, head of the main public hospital in Logar said in this regard that the 85-Bed Hospital in Pul-I-Alam has witnessed 80 percent damage due to the blast. He claimed it was near impossible to treat patients here under present circumstances.
Mohammad Zarif Naibkhail, head of the Provincial Health Department affirmed the appalling state of the hospital. He said a relative safe section of the hospital and the emergency ward was operation under a contract with a group of doctors.
“People’s complaints and frustration is just, we have conveyed the message to the Ministry of Public Health and provincial council and would do our best to swiftly rebuild the hospital”, he said.
