AYBAK (SW): The state-owned regional Radio Television Afghanistan (RTA) station in northern Samangan opened its new studios built with both technical assistance and funding from the German government.
According to the Deutsche Zusammenarbeit (German Cooperation with Afghanistan), the project was supported as part of Germany’s programme for regional capacity development in northern Afghanistan. Besides the new studios, 14 staff members of RTA received six months of training in reporting, recording and editing.
The total cost of construction, equipment and training is estimated at around afn 12 million, a statement by the GCA said.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Dr. Martin Schuldes, German Development Commissioner in Afghanistan said that access to information and professional media coverage is crucial to enable people to develop well-informed opinions.
In addition, he reassured that Germany will continue to be a reliable partner of the Afghan people.
Mohammad Hashim Zareh, the Provincial Governor thanked the German government for its comprehensive cooperation with Afghanistan.
In six provinces in northern Afghanistan, Germany supports the development priorities of its Afghan partners at the provincial and district level, while at the same time providing training and coaching programmes for civil servants, GCA stated.
