ASADABAD (SW) – Hundreds of citizens took to the streets in Kunar province against the alleged killings of six civilians in a security operation.
The protesters brought the bodies of the victims to the city center in the provincial capital, Asadabad, while demanding justice. They claimed these civilians got killed in the joint operation by the US and Afghan forces in the Sokai district of the province.
They charged the government forces are killing civilians without first proving if they are guilty or not.
Abdullah and Fazal Mohammad, two such protesters, said this is not the first time when civilians are killed instead of the rebels. They claimed the victims of the latest operation had no ties with the Taliban or the Daesh militants.
The protesters warned to cut ties with the government if it failed to stop such incidents. The protesters also closed the Kunar – Jalalabad highway for a while.
Meanwhile, Ghani Musmim, spokesman for the provincial government, has acknowledged a security operation was conducted by the NDS in the Sokai district. It is worth noticing the said district is under the clout of the Daesh militants.
A while ago, a candidate for the parliamentary elections and his three guards got killed in a similar incident in the Narang district of the province.
