Protest against ban on undocumented vehicles

18/11/2018

ASADABAD (SW) – A number of Kunar residents on Sunday took to the streets against the ban imposed on vehicles possessing temporary registration documents.

They charged the move by the government to ban such vehicles would deprive many residents of their livelihood.

Based on a presidential decree and the decision by the council of ministers, those vehicles possessing temporary registration documents or without documents should not be allowed on the streets anymore.

However, the Kunar residents protested against it. Two such protesters, Noorullah and Izatullah, said the government should allow them the time so that they can alter the vehicles and make them fit for right-hand-traffic. They said the trade of vehicles is their only hope for a livelihood while the government would only scrap their undocumented vehicles, which are not worth a lot.

Meanwhile, Haqnawaz Haqyar, provincial police chief, said these undocumented vehicles are rampantly used in criminal activities. He stressed the owners should get their vehicles registered otherwise they would not be allowed on the roads.

The undocumented left-hand-traffic vehicles are plying on roads in a number of provinces across the country where they are associated with irregularities and crimes as well.
