KABUL (SW) – Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, the leader of Hezb-e-Islami Party, has said the parliamentary elections held last month were marred with fraud.
At a press conference here on Thursday, Hekmatyar said if the government did not accept political parties’ demands, and went ahead with presidential election full of fraud, there would be no choice but to transfer power to the interim government.
The leader of Hezb-e-Islami emphasized that the transfer of power to the interim government would be for transparency, and that the person at the head of the interim government shall not be a presidential candidate.
According to Hekmatyar, the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) elections were full of fraud and with many shortcomings, and now the delay in announcement of election results provides grounds for more fraud.
He added that the main political parties under the name of Coalition for National Understanding, which consists of 37 parties, will announce in the near future their position on the presidential elections. Hekmatyar said he has spoken with the representatives of the US, Russia, China and India about the presidential election, and they also support a candidate supported by political parties.
He accused President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani of not keeping his promise of holding a conference of political parties about the parliamentary and presidential elections.
We wanted to have the views of the government, but Shah Hussein Mortazavi, the spokesman for the presidency, refused to talk about this matter.
