KANDAHAR CITY (SW) – Authorities in Kandahar claim to have reopen 13 public schools and one madrasa, a religious school, that were previously closed due to insecurity.
Nazar Mohammad Samimi, director media affairs at the directorate of education, informed Salam Watandar these schools are located in the Spin Boldak, Dand, Arghandab and Zeray districts. The reopening of schools would help enable up to six thousands students, including one thousand girls, to continue with their studies.
The locals have welcomed the development. Saleh Mohammad and Khudai Raheem, two residents of the province, said they faced troubles in regard to their children’s education, but the reopening of schools have removed a major obstacle. They demanded the government and the Taliban to help reopen all closed schools across the country.
At the start of new academic year, up to 120 schools were still closed in Kandahar, but now up to 106 remains closed.
