GHAZNI CITY (SW) – Following the Taliban’s onslaught on Ghazni, the media houses here sustained financial losses worth over $ one million, and some even closed down.
This was stated by Abdul Mujeeb Khalwatgar, chief executive officer of Nai- Supporting Media Organization, during a presser here on Thursday.
He said 12 media houses were functioning in Ghazni prior to the assault by the Taliban, and now only eight are active. Khalwatgar said the media industry here sustained losses worth more than $ one million, and up to 45 media workers either quit jobs or were sacked.
The Nai CEO urged the government to compensate these losses via the rehabilitation fund worth AFN 280 million.
He also rejected a report by the Ministry of Information and Culture, and stated only 473 media houses are operating in the country.
This comes as President, Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, on Thursday visited Ghazni on Thursday to review the reconstruction and security situation.
