IDPs face crippling drought in Badghes

27/08/2018

QALA-I-NAU (SW) – Hundreds of families fleeing fighting between the Taliban and security forces in Badghes province informed they are faced with crippling drought.

The internally displaced persons from Bala Murghab, Muqar and Qadis districts informed the local administration  and aid agencies have provided financial aid worth some AFN 60,000 to a limited number of families while the rest have nothing to eat.

Syed Wali, an IDP from Bala Murghab, said the children in particular are ill, and one of them died due to hunger and thirst. Fazal Rabi, another IDP, said the desperate and uprooted people have no other choice, but to travel to Herat for better shelter and aid.

The local administration in Badghes have urged the government and aid agencies to help them assist the needy IDPs.  Abdul Zaher Badghesi, head of the directorate of refugees and repatriates, said up to one thousand families have been displaced by the rages of war from different districts. He vowed the local administration is trying its best in this regard.

Spokesman for the governor, Jamshed Shahabi, said tents and medicine have been distributed among the needy people.

In the past, Badghes was considered as one of the peaceful provinces, but insecurity has made life difficult for the locals here now.
