Security forces vacate positions on Maimana – Herat highway

26/08/2018

MAIMANA (SW) – The security forces have vacated bases and check posts on the Maimana – Herat highway in Faryab province, officials claimed on Sunday.

Sibghatullah Sailab, deputy chairman for the provincial council, informed Salam Watandar two bases and 28 check posts have been vacated in the restive Almaar and Qaisaar districts on the main highway. He pronounced this as part of the new U.S. war strategy that dictates vacating posts in the remote areas under the influence of the rebels.

Governor of Qaisaar district, Haji Rehmatullah, has also acknowledged these reports.

Meanwhile, deputy to the army chief, Gen.  Abdul Hameed Hameed, told SW the forces have been directed to the district centers in a bid to avoid casualties. He said these posts were useless.

The Taliban rebels have reportedly killed up to 150 security forces on this highway in the restive Ghormaach, Qaisaar and Almaar districts in the past 20 days.
