MAIMANA (SW) – Naqibullah Fayeq, governor of Faryab province, announced on Wednesday a local force of some 200 uprising men is prepared in the wake of threats from the Taliban.
Governor Fayeq said the men have been paid and equipped in a bid to safeguard the provincial capital, Maimana, in the wake of potential Taliban assault. Some members of the local uprising force lamented the government did not paid attention to them in the past.
Habibullaha and Khalmurad, two such members of the force, said they are ready to safeguard the city.
This comes as fears are growing in regard to the Taliban’s potential raid on Maimana city. Reports suggest, the Taliban have grown in numbers around Maimana after the surrender of Daesh in Jawzjan.
