KABUL (SW) – The participants of Helmand Peace March have reached the capital Kabul covering distance of up to 700 km on foot.
The peace marchers began their journey in Lashkargah, capital of Helmand province, last month in a bid to push the warring sides to end the bloodshed in the country. The group is set to hold a large gathering for peace in the capital on Monday.
Sunday was the third and last day of cease-fire declared by the Taliban and the sixth day of the eight-day cease-fire announced by the government. The Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has hinted to extend the ceasefire.
“We are ready for comprehensive negotiations, all those issues and demands that have been put-forth we are ready to discuss them at the peace talks. The Afghan government is ready to discuss issues of mutual concern with neighbouring countries, and presence of foreign forces”, the president stated on the second day of ceasefire, June 16.
However, the Talban have resumed their offensives ‘al-Khandaq’ on Monday.
