MAIMANA (SW) – The Taliban have reportedly overrun Kohistan district in Faryab province killing the district governor among a number of security forces.
Ahmad Javed Bedar, spokesman for the provincial governor, informed the Taliban killed Kohistan governor, Abdul Rehman Panah, and a number of security forces in clashes here.
Separately, a well-placed source informed Salam Watandar the armed rebels killed two soldiers and overran two check posts along with resources in neighboring Sar-i-Pul province. The source informed the Taliban stormed check posts in the Sayad district’s Qaflatoon and Qashlaq villages last night. It is said up to 30 members of the Afghan Local Police (ALP) are missing.
There is no official confirmation about this so far. This comes as the security forces are observing first day of ceasefire announced by the government.
