
ASADABAD (SW): An official in Kunar province claimed the Taliban abducted eight people here last night.
Wilayat Khan, chairman of the provincial council, informed the rebels took away a local elder and seven other people from the Asmaar district in the wee-hours on Tuesday. He added the Taliban had warned locals here to quit government jobs, but the locals refused to obey the rebels.
The provincial council chairman further informed the security forces got in action when the Taliban had taken the villages under siege, but still the rebels managed to abduct the eight people. Wilayat Khan informed a number of abducted men were government employees.
The provincial police chief, Haq Nawaz Haqyar, has also confirmed the incident. He added efforts are underway to ensure release of the men via negations through local elders.
The Taliban have so far no commented on this matter.
