Slow pace of ID cards distribution irks Bamyanis

BAMYAN CITY (SW): The issuance of identity cards has commenced in Bamyan province with a delay, but the locals remain skeptical due to lack of application forms and poor quality of service.

Tahera and Mohammad Hussain, two Bamyan residents, told Salam Watandar they have been visiting the identity cards issuing authority’s office for the past two days, but no officials have paid attention towards them. This led to the provincial council members hold a press conference, and record protest against the government’s ‘discrimination against the province’ in this regard.

The PC members said up to 50 per cent women and 20 per cent men in the province do not have identity cards, and up to 7 thousand applicants refer to the identity cards issuing authority on daily basis. They feared if situation remained as it is, up to 70 per cent of Bamyan residents would be deprived of taking part in the forthcoming polls.

Tayaba Khawari, a member of the PC, said the residents of the province would not remain silent in the wake of government’s lack of attention towards Bamyan. She stressed protest demonstrations would be staged in front of the presidential palace, and the Population Registration Directorate.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Taher Husni, provincial head of the PRD in Bamyan, informed Salam Watandar up to 2000 fresh identity cards have been dispatched to the province, and the issuing process is in full swing. He added up to 175,000 identity cards are planned to be dispatched for Bamyan, but the demand might surge to 300,000.
