ASADABAD (SW): Hundreds of protesters took to the streets in Kunar on Tuesday demanding sacking of district governor Mohammad Wali and director education Abdul Zahir.
The protesters blamed the governor of Noor Gul district, Wali, and director education Zahi for corruption. The protesters told Salam Watandar these two individuals are engaged in systematic corruption in the district.
However, district governor Wali has asserted the protest was orchestrated by transporters whom he blamed for undermining rules and regulations. He said a bus stand close to Mazar high school for girls has been relocated to another spot that has sparked the outcry.
An officer at the directorate of education, Azizullah Sidiq, informed Salam Watandar on phone the parents of female students demanded removing the bus stand from close to the school. A local elder who wished not to be named acknowledged this demand of the parents.
The protesters chanting slogans against the district governor and director of education kept the main Jalalabad – Kunar highway closed for an hour.
