GHAZNI (SW): Ghazni police chief said that Taliban attacked the district building, police command, and the security forces’ checkpoints in Khawaja Omari district in Ghazni last night killing the district governor, district police chief and a number of district officials and workers.
General Mohammad Zaman, the Ghazni police chief, although didn’t provide the exact number of casualties told Salam Watandar that a number of national security personnel and district officials and employees were among the dead.
However, Ramazan Ali Mohsini, head of security forces in Ghazni said that in this attack the district governor and the district police chief along 12 others were killed and 10 others were wounded.
Ghazni police chief informed that as a result of a rocket attack, part of the district building was destroyed. He added that the security forces have arrived in the area and the situation is now under the control of the security forces.
Mohammad Ayaz Nemati, one of the tribal elders in this district expressed concern over the security situation in this district and told Salam Watandar that if the central government does not take serious steps to ensure security in this district, the people will try to have the control on their hands. He also confirmed the death of 14 security forces in the attack.
Taliban claimed that they killed 20 security forces and have had the district building and district police headquarter under their control for several hours.
