In Balkh, security tight for Nawruz celebration

20/03/2018

BALKH (SW): As the Afghan New Year enters, the security officials in Balkh assured guests and residents of the Mazar-e Sharif that the security is tight for Nawruz celebration.

Mohammad Arab, a Senior Official at No. 6 regiment of Balkh Police, who is responsible for ensuring the security of Nawruz celebration, said that the police have been working with full strength to secure the Nawruz celebration.

The first phase of the security of Nawruz celebration was started two months ago, and has ended this past Sunday; however, the second phase of the security has started today and will continue for the next three days during the Nawruz celebration.

Abdul Razaq Qaderi, Deputy Security Chief of Balkh Police, said that since this morning, all access routes to the city center and the Rawza Sakhi has been restricted. Qaderi assured that the police forces are fully prepared for the security of Nawruz celebration.

According to Qaderi, the third phase of the security will start in three days and will continue for another 40 days.

Amanullah Mobin, the commander of 209 Shahin regiment in the north, also assured that the highways and the city of Mazar-e Sharif will be safe during the Nawruz celebration.

A number of the residents of Mazar-e Sharif have hailed the efforts of the security forces in securing the city of Mazar-e Sharif during the Nawruz celebration hoping that this year’s Nawruz celebration will pass happily.

However, unlike the previous years, few guests have entered the city of Mazar-e Sharif for the celebration of Nawruz. It seems that the fear of a terrorist attack has caused many people to avoid the Nawruz celebration and the celebration of the “red roses” in the Afghan New Year on March 21st.
