HERAT (SW): Over the past three years, more than 100,000 children have quit school in Herat province.
Abdul Razaq Ahmadi, head of Directorate of Education in Herat province told Salam Watandar that according to the statistics, there are still nearly 300,000 children eligible for school; however, they have not registered for schooling.
According to Ahmadi, poverty, the traditional society, the lack of female teachers, and the lack of quality education have been the main reasons for children quitting school.
Ahmadi said that the high number of eligible children not registering for school is worrying; however, he vowed to continue their efforts to enrol these children between ages of 8 to 18, into schools. ‘About 900,000 children will be enrolled into schools in the upcoming year’, he added.
Herat Civil Society activists said that the Ministry of Education needs to organize awareness-raising campaigns to enrol these children into schools.
