
KABUL (SW): The officials at the Ministry of Justice said that the number of offenses committed by children has decreased by 20 percent compared to previous years.
Abdul Basir Anwar, Justice Minister, said that since 2014, 10,699 child offenders have been treated at the Ministry of Justice’s Children’s Rehabilitation Centers.
According to the Minister, only this year, 784 children have been rehabilitated in these centers. He said the highest felonies have been committed by children aged 16 and 17 years. He said that in the Children’s Rehabilitation Centers, the MoJ is providing health, education and training services in cooperation with the Ministries of Public Health, Ministry of Information and Culture and Ministry of Education, free of charge.
The Minister added that 10 Children’s Rehabilitation Centers have been built in Kabul, Herat, Farah, Helmand, Samangan, Khost, Balkh, Nangarhar, Kandahar, Maidan Wardak provinces, and three other centers will soon be built in Bamiyan, Paktia and Badakhshan provinces.
According to the statistics provided by the Ministry of Justice, currently, 784 convicted children have been raised in the Children Rehabilitation Centers across the country including 80 girls and 704 boys.
