KABUL (SW): At least 1382 civilians got killed and 2360 others got wounded in different security incidents across the country during the last 8 months of 2017.
This was stated by the Civilian Protection Group (CPG) in a report released on Wednesday.
Aziz Ahmad Tasal, a member of the CPG, said that these casualties were caused by airstrikes, suicide attacks and bombings, which mostly took place in Kabul, Nangarhar, Herat, Ghor, Kunduz, and Helmand provinces. In this report by the CPG, the government and armed opposition groups have been asked to pay serious attention towards the lives of non-combatants in the fighting.
Mohammad Atif, another member of CPG, said the government should make sure that the foreign troops do not harm the non-combatants during their raids on the armed opposition groups. According to Mr. Atif, killing of civilians is a violation of human rights and international laws.
Meanwhile, a number of other organizations including the UN have released similar reports on civilian casualties in Afghanistan raising concerns about the increase in civilian casualties.
