KABUL (SW): The findings of a joint panel of six commissions of the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) have showed 11 petroleum products importing companies have evaded taxes worth $32 million in the past 4 years.
Abdul Qadir Zazay Watandost, the WJ Secretary and chair of the panel, said today that some companies did not attend the commission’s meetings during investigation and review process, while others provided tax documents that did not satisfy the house. He said these companies should pay $32,751,009 equivalent to AFN 229,257,870,630 as outstanding tax.
Watandost added that the house has reviewed the matter based on valid government documents. The chair of the joint panel of six commissions of the WJ added that they have reviewed the documents for the years 2011 to 2014 only.
Some members of the commission suggested that this report should be handed over to the Ministry of Finance, however, other members resisted the suggestion and eventually, they proposed sending it to the Attorney General’s Office.
Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, speaker of the house, called delegates to vote, which was approved by a majority. However, Mr. Ibrahimi said that a panel of MPs will be selected to address and oversee this report.
