99 children set to depart for Germany for treatment

KABUL (SW): As many as 99 children with severe bone fractures and severe burns are set to depart for Germany on Wednesday for treatment.

Officials at the Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS) said these children will be sent to Germany in partnership with the Peace Village Program for treatment. These patients include 67 boy and 32 girls.

Mirwais Akram, a deputy head of the ARCS, said the children whose treatment is not possible in Afghanistan are sent abroad for treatment on annual basis. Most of these children who are on the treatment plan are under the age of 11.

The director of the ARCS informed that the treatment period for these children is 6 months, if some of these children needed more treatment, they will be kept in Germany for a longer period.

Salem Bahramand, Director of Health Services for the ARCS, said that every year approximately 100 children with severe bone fractures and severe burns are included in this treatment program.

According to Bahramand, these children will be sent out of the country after the initial medical examination by German doctors.
