GARDEZ/ SAR-I-PUL/ GHOR (SW) – In multiple security incidents, at least nine security forces and 23 Taliban insurgents have been killed in different provinces, officials confirmed on Monday.
Mohammad Noor Rehmani, chairman for the Sar-i-Pul provincial council, said heavily armed Taliban militants attacked security check posts on the main highway to Jawzjan province last night. He said the clashes continued till early morning leaving four security forces killed and 32 others wounded. Rehmani said the insurgents damaged four Humvee vehicles and took away a large cache of arms and ammunition.
In the meantime, Zabihullah Amani, spokesman for the provincial governor, has said four soldiers and 15 Taliban insurgents got killed and 22 soldiers and 20 insurgents got injured in these clashes. He said though the Taliban’s attack has been thwarted, but situation remains concerning.
Separately, officials in Ghor and Paktia provinces said the Taliban insurgents also staged similar attacks there.
Sardar Wali Tabassum, spokesman for the provincial governor of Paktia, said the Taliban killed three policemen in Patan district in clashes that also left two insurgents killed.
In Ghor, Nisar Ahmad Abdulrahimzay, provincial police chief, said the Taliban attacked a check post of the local uprising force in the Feroz Koh leaving two policemen and seven insurgents killed.
In a statement published on the social media, the Taliban claimed responsibility for attacks in Sar-i-Pul, Paktia and Ghor provinces.
