KABUL (SW): Up to 9.9 million children across the country are set to receive polio vaccination drops in this year’s spring campaign launched on Monday.
Fida Mohammad Paikan, deputy minister at the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), said on the occasion that up to 9.9 million children under the age of five would receive police vaccines and up 8.9 million other children would receive dose of vitamin A to boost their immune systems.
The nationwide drive would be conducted by some 68,000 volunteers. However, insecurity would deprive thousands of children in some 41 restive districts of this important vaccine.
The Taliban have imposed ban on polio vaccination in Paktika’s Gomal, Kher Kot and Barmal districts, in Kandahar’s Khakrez district while the pro-Daesh rebels have imposed similar ban in Kunar province’s Sokai district.
The MoPH has also dispatched up to 300 mobile teams to vaccinate children on the move travelling with their families.
