KABUL (SW): The Deputy Ministry of Counter Narcotics (DMoCN) of Ministry of Interior (MoI) says the police have arrested 140 drug lords.
According to the authorities, since the beginning of March, 874 drug traffickers have been arrested from across the country, including 140 big smugglers.
Abdul Khalil Bakhtiar, Deputy Minister of Counter Narcotics at the MoI, addressing a press conference here in Kabul on Wednesday, said that the Deputy Minister has launched 867 operations to apprehend the drug traffickers, out of which 114 were big operations.
According to the DM, during the operations 874 smugglers are arrested out of which 140 are drug lords, 142 are medium smugglers and 570 are drug sellers especially from Kabul city.
The DM also said that 21 members of MoI and Ministry of Defense are among the arrested drug smugglers who were either directly smuggled drugs or colluded with the traffickers.
He told the presser that during the operations 19 drug factories were destroyed by the police and 5 Pakistani and 3 Iranian drug smugglers were also arrested.
“116 tons of drugs, alcohol and other substances were seized in the operations. The counter narcotics police have also seized telecommunication devices and cash during the raids”, added Bakhtiar.
The DM also informed that the drug cartels have sustained a loss of 292 million dollars as a result of the operations. Based on his information if the drugs were smuggled out the country it would have worth 900 million dollars.
