PARUN (SW): The education officials in Nuristan have said that lack of educators, school buildings, education methods impede education in the province.
According to these authorities, some schools are closed since past 6 months, depriving the students of education. They have said that the province has 225 schools, out of which only 40 school has buildings and most of the students are learning in open or under a tent.
Mohammad Amin Hamad, the provincial director of education, talking to Salam Watandar said due to insecurity, the Taliban have set 7 schools on fire in different parts of the province. He further said that since past 6 years 2 high schools have been shut.
The provincial education director urged the Ministry of Education to prioritize building schools in order to improve education in the province.
But, the governor of the province has said that construction of 14 schools which were halted due to corruption allegations, has re-started.
Hafiz Abdul Qayyum, the governor of Nuristan, talking to Salam Watandar said that negligence and irresponsibility, are not just in the education sector, but the province is suffering the same issues in other sectors as well. According to the governor, several educational and technical institutes are under construction. He blamed the Ministry of Education for not paying proper attention to education in Nuristan.
Mujib Mehrdad, the spokesman for the Ministry of Education, rejecting the allegations of Nuristan’s governor said insecurity and distance have caused difficulty in improving the education system in Nuristan. “Along with Nuristan, other provinces are suffering from insecurity, however, the Ministry is determined to implement better education equally in all the provinces of the country”, assured Mehrdad.
The provincial education authorities also said that previous year 300 students graduated from all the schools in the province while this year only 150 students managed to graduate and take part in university entrance exam.
