PUL-I-KHUMRI (SW): During the ongoing “Khurshid Offensives” in northern Baghlan province, up to 81 Taliban rebels have been reported dead.
According to the officials, three notorious Taliban commanders namely Pahlawan also known as Adamkhor, Nazokmir, Haji Muhammad and a number of Pakistani militants are among those killed in the operation.
The operation in Dand-i-Ghouri and surrounding areas started some nine days ago during which the Taliban were blamed for detonated an electricity transmission tower during the fight with the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) in the Dand-e-Shahab district. According to latest reports, the Taliban have also blown-up another transmission tower in the area two days ago.
Abdul Satar, Baghlan Governor, said a day earlier that the ANSF have surrounded the Taliban in Dand-i-Ghori and the Taliban are using civilians as human-shield and that was why the ANSF cannot attack them directly. The governor added that the locals are fully supporting the ANSF against the Taliban.
Nadira Nahrinwal, a women right activist in Baghlan told Salam Watandar that a number of women and children have lost lives or got wounded due to fighting. She criticized that a deal signed by the government in Dand-i-Ghori last year made a mess of things. She stressed that extensive air power must be used to eliminate the rebels.
