KABUL (SW) – More than 10 per cent of the whole population in Afghanistan is disabled, and 2.8 per cent of them are living with severe disabilities, a moot noted here on Monday.

According to the Afghanistan Disabled and Martyrs Support Organization, up to 59 per cent of the disabled people are males and the remaining 41 per cent are females. It was also mentioned that in every fifth family there is a one person with disabilities.

Laaluddin Aryubi, head of the ADMSO, said consultations are underway to review and improve the annual support the disabled persons are receiving. He added efforts are also underway to improve delivery of services to the people with disabilities. Among the disabled persons, 75 per cent women and children are deprived of education and services, he added.

In a bid to fight graft on priority basis, review of the documents of the heirs of disabled and martyrs is underway in all 34 provinces, he added.

The ragging conflict in Afghanistan has left behind many people with disabilities.
