KABUL (SW): On the basis of the peace agreement with the Hezb-e Islami Party (HI) led by Gulbadin Hekmatyar, the government on Friday released 75 of the HI detainees.

Shahmir Amirpur, head of prisons and courts at the Ministry of Interior, said at a ceremony in this connection that these prisoners were released on the basis of a decree of the President. Mr. Amirpur rejected the links between these prisoners and the Daesh or the Taliban groups, saying that their investigation has shown that all these people are members of Hezb-e Islami party.

Nader Afghan, spokesperson for HI, told Salam Watandar that until now, 145 of the HI prisoners have been released from prisons in three phases, and this process continues. Mr. Afghan criticized the slow process of the release of the prisoners of HI, saying some people inside the government have been opposing the release of these prisoners.

Nasrullah, a member of Peace Accord of the government with the HI, said the prisoners have been released on several occasions on the basis of the signed agreement. One of the prisoners who was sentenced to 8 years of prison time, and spent only two years said that he will continue his education after coming out.

The peace agreement was signed 13 months ago. According to members of the HI, one of the articles of this agreement is about the release of 2500 to 3000 HI prisoners.
